Classic DAF

44
In September 1966 a larger model was presented to the public. It was the Daf 4444. This B body was larger and the design, by the Italian designer Michelotti, was more up to date. The 44 first appeared in only one version. It had stainless steel strips around the windows, two tone interior and air vents on the left and right side of the dashboard. A year later the "Standaard" version was introduced, but it was never very succesfull. The first year of production took place in the factory in Eindhoven, but in the summer of 1967 it was moved to the new factory in Born.
The Mark II was introduced in August 1969, along with the modernisation of the 33 and 55. Daf 44It had some improvements like softer material on the steering wheel, door handles integrated in the arm rests for safety and bigger head lights. In september 1972, the 44 like the 33 received a 12 V electrical system instead of the 6 V. There were also some changes, in order to make the car resemble the new 66. The bumpers now had black rubber corners, the new wheels had black wheel covers and imitation ventilation holes. The last 44īs had different headlights and the divided door windows.
