Classic DAF

46
The 46 was the successor of the 44. Daf 46The most notable change is the new Dion back axle (like the 66) with a variomatic with one belt. According to Daf, the single belt was all that was needed to handle the 40 hp of the 46. It had an obvious disadvantage to a variomatic with two belts: when the belt broke, it completely lost the capability to drive.
The 46 was available as "Luxe" and as "Super Luxe". Daf 46 VariomaticThe 46 was never very popular because of itīs lower power output and the vulnerable single belt variomatic. Remarkable is the fact that the 46 was sold as a Daf even after the Volvo take over in 1975. Apparently Volvo thought the 46 wasnīt worth to bear the name Volvo, even when it was sold in Volvo garages.
